Hey everyone sorry for my lack of posting, February was such a crazy month for me, and along with the begining of March. So let me start with last Friday when my friend Kristine, Martisol, and I went bowling down at the Neonopolis. We had a great time bowling, even though we all really sucked at it
. After two games of playing, and Kristine winning twice in a row we decided to go on the strip in my car to eat at the Fashion Show Mall. After eating their we decided it was pretty late enough, only around 10:00pm really, but for some reason we were all really tired so I decided to drop Kristine and Martisol off at home. About 30 minutes from where we had originally started off at the strip I made a wrong turn and ended up in North Las Vegas. Realising that we were seriously lost Kristine suggested that I get into the left lane, and when we hit the main street again. So as I put my left blinker on and started to get over, all of a sudden we see this brown taurus speed up beside us, and were like what ever. So I speed and try to get over, as we were getting closer to main street all I hear is this small police siren, but see no lights. The police siren went off, and we just ignored it and I finally got over because I figured it was an ambulance coming that I could not see. Then I finally see flashing lights in a un~marked police car, who also looked liked he was about to run me down if I didnt get over quickly. So I got over onto this resedential neighberhood, rolled down my window, and the police officer says “Did you realize you cut us off ?” I said no, because my windows are extremly black, and had been retinted before. Not to mention the street lights were half off. So I give him my drivers liscence, he goes back to his car while another officer steps out of the vehicle rolls my window down all the way, unlocks my door, swings the door open like a monkey who has just found food on a deserted island, pulls me out the car, puts my hands in a backwards prayer pose and slams me on the car. Does a partial strip search on me asking me ridculous questions like, “Did you pass the drivers test”, I said yes on the first time. Then he ask” Have you been drinking, smoking weed?’ I said no, then after that he sits me on the ground (remind you that its at least 55 degrees in Nevada at night), and says “cross your legs at the ankles.” Gets my friend Kristine out the passenger side of the car ask her the same things, snatches her phone out her hand and then sat her on the ground next to me, then finally the same officer gets my friend Martisol out of the car, ask her questions but doesent search her. Mean while were all waiting on the concrete while the other officer is still running my lisence, and finds nothing. But still runs it again, while the other officer who searched us ask if I have any guns or drugd in the car, or anything that might be appropriate. I say no and he goes inside my car dumps my purse out, checks under all the mats, then when he is done leaves the doors wide open. Five seconds later he tells Kristine and Martisol they can go back inside the car and get “warm”. The officer who finished running my liscence tells me I can go sit inside my car, he gives me a ticket for 190 dollars for improper lane change, stating that I almost hit his veichle. (Thats a bunch of crap) Tells me that Im free to go, and how we all make mistakes. Im thinking to myself are you for real? I drive off after I put all the things back in my purse. I finally took Martisol and Kristine back home, the whole time we were mostly silent on our drive back home. As I was thinking, and Im sure they were thinking too, what in the Hell just happend? So the next morning I talked to my mom on the phone about it, and she said what the officer did was wrong, and that they were probaly looking for drug dealers (North Las Vegas is noturious for having drug stand offs) and my car fit the “profile”, and since it had “dark tinted windows”. She also told me that she will help me contact the ACLU, and Im also contacting the Police Complaint Center.
Why did they feel as if they needed to search us, or throw myself, and my friends against their car. I mean Im only 5′3, I dont weigh more than 110 pounds, Kristine is only 5′2, and Martisol is at least around 5 1/2 inches tall. The whole situation that night made me have even more lack of respect for the police department in Nevada. It also opened my eyes up to what people have experienced in this country for years, had I been a blonde haired blue eyed caucasian women it would have been a totally complete diffrent situation. But becasue Im black, and above all muslim I must be trying to do something illegal. Salaams

Wow, thats terrible! I’m sorry that happened to you. You should definitely file a complaint. They shouldn’t be able to to that. That sort of stuff makes me angry.

Aww, so sorry for what happened sis! They aren’t allowed to treat you like that in Germany. That’s so terrible. Anyways, hope you “recovered” from that. Maybe I should send you oneof my evil eyes, huh
Oh, btw great layout mashaAllah.

Ahmed: Thanks brother
Unfourtanetly a lot of times people abuse their power. But no one should be unrightfully treated, I’am a good citizen who does the right things, and those police men were way out of line. I have already filed a complaint to the sargents office. Im sure those two cops have already heard about my complaint, and Im happy to know that this will follow them throught the course of their career.
Cevris: Im glad to hear that there are better police ethics in your part of the world
Please send one of your evil eyes! Im glad you like my layout, I thought it was time for a change, I also thought the music fit perfectly too.

That must have sucked. That guy sounds like a J-E-R-K! This kind of thing needs to stop. This blog was really thorough, informative, and well-written. Thanks for that, I was fascinated (yet angry) when I read it.

Dear Almira,
I read this post the first day you put it up and couldn’t even comment it made me so angry. But the anger was just the covering for the pain I felt when I read it. What happened to you should have NEVER happened. It’s not easy filing a police complaint, let me just warn you. I know this because my own daughter had a situation of police abuse and the police did everything in their power to try to get her to drop it. I’m glad you are getting an attorney because they can work as your representative and you have a buffer between you and the police. Stick to your guns Almira, my daughter did. But under the policeman’s bill of rights (I believe it’s a federal law) you will never know what happened to the officer as to police actions against him if you do it through an internal affairs complaint. If you file a civil suit, that’s a different story. I’ll keep you in my prayers as I have since I first read this. Take care dear.

Corvinna: You are right this thing has to stop, people need to quit be scared. Victims need to speak out, and I truly believe that by me taking these so called peace officers to court, it will open doors to many other citizens who have been violated, and will be violated in the future.
Hello Ms. Robin, thank you so much for commenting. To my surprise I have also had the same problem as your daughter, I tried to fill out the rest of the complaint today and the sargent was down right disgusting. He kept trying to say how it was mostly all my fault, and calling my cell phone to see when Im going to come in to the police station. Really just a spiteful person Ms. Robin. Im still filling the complaint out, and Im also getting a attorney to represent me. People like me cant just keep getting ran over all the time and think it is ok, its a violation of my civil rights, and as a human being. They have a job just like everyone else, and police only make it harder on themselves when they abuse their power. They disrespected my friends and myself, and now they are going to have to under go the consequences. Thank you so much for your suppourt Ms. Robin it really means alot to me.

Yes I fully understand how bad you were treated! My wife is asian 5ft2 110 lbs! She was pulled over Mar 1st 2007, by North Las Vegas, same scenario-heavy traffic on Craig Rd at 6pm, she made a left turn to Craig from simmons, siren came on,she was going 20mph trying to get to right shoulder without an accident(police never tried blocking traffic for her) she stops, they order her out of car with hands in air(by PA system) 4 cop cars guns drawn, handcuffed her, searched car, her bags, detained her for over an hour before issuing a citation, Car was impounded too, without a property inventory done of contents.Charges were driving unlawfully with plates susended by DMV June 21st 2006, not stopping for emergency veh!!! guess what I inquired with DMV as its my car, registration was current til March 2007, when I had to buy new plates because they took mine!! this sounds like profiling, female alone, asian, Oh yes the hand frisked her 3 times!!!! she told them she was ateacher a UNLV!!! crazy, have hired an attorney and am going to file for damages!!!
